Literacy Volunteers Needed

Hi all…School is back in session and soon the teachers will be able to determine which students are already falling behind. These are the ones you may be able to inspire to overcome their difficulties and become confident readers. Three of our local schools have signed onto Literacy Successful again: Bergen Meadows, Parmalee, and Elk Creek. Training will probably be in October.

In the past, we have asked for a commitment of 30 minutes, twice a week for the school year. Several have mentioned to me that they would love to tutor but could not make this commitment for the entire school year. Well, this year we are going to try to pair up tutors (if desired) and do more of a team approach so that more volunteers can get a chance share in this opportunity. There are always more students needing help than volunteers available. I will try to work with the school Literacy Successful coordinator to organize this.

If you (or someone you know) are at all interested in being a reading tutor for Kindergarten - Fourth graders, please let me know. We usually tutor Nov-May.
