Meeting of Colo/Utah Chapter of Forest Fire Lookout Assn
February 26th, 2008 | by EvergreenRotary |The Colorado/Utah Chapter of the FOREST FIRE LOOKOUT ASSOCIATION will meet for lunch at El Rancho Restaurant on SAT. APRIL 26 at 11:30 AM. El Rancho will allow us to order individually from the menu. In case of a major storm, the next Sat., May 3, will be our back-up date.
Members and guests are invited to bring display items and to share lookout experiences. Some folks such as Margaret and Bill Ellis who have been on Devil’s Head Lookout for twenty-four seasons will present a short DVD of their lives and Ron Ruhoff, Evergreen photographer, will tell about his visits with Bob and Margaret Swanlund who not only manned Squaw Mt. Fire Lookout but lived for decades year round below the tower at 11,500 feet.
Chapter business will consist of an update of what is happening with lookouts in the area, E.g., repair work at Squaw Mt. Lookout and renovation of Fairview Lookout on the Gunnison Nat’l Forest. (Fairview is the highest lookout in America at an elevation of 13,241 feet and was recently added to the National Historic Lookout Register.) All are welcome and encouraged to share what is happening in your locale. Hopefully, members of the “Friends of Deadman Lookout,” “Friends of Shadow Mt. Lookout” and others will be present to let the group know of efforts in all areas of Colorado and Utah.
Those who have display items, may begin to set up at 10:30 AM.
PLEASE RSVP to me at kelloggsa@aol.com IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND. This will allow El Rancho to be ready for our group.
