Our June 3 speaker, Dave Lighthart, General Manager of Evergreen Metro District, gave a very informative presentation on the history and current events affecting Evergreen Lake.  The dam was constructed in 1926-27 to provide a source of water for irrigation for ranches in the area as well as a recreation spot for the residents of Denver.  A major renovation took place in the 1970's following the 1976 Big Thompson flood.  Today the lake serves as the ''crown jewel" of Evergreen providing an iconic focal point for the community as well as a source of drinking water and a wide range of recreational opportunities for the area.  Especially interesting was his discussion of the 2013 flood event and the dredging that is currently underway to remove the sediment from that flood.   This is a must see for every Evergreen resident.
