Mary Pat Dewald

Our speaker on Friday is Mary Pat Dewald!  Mary Pat is a Registered Nurse and the founder of Blue Sky Nurse Concierge and the Nightingale Center for Human Caring. She has extensive clinical experience in acute care, hospice, and community health, supporting patients and families through serious illness, end-of-life care, and care giving transitions. Much of her work has been alongside families experiencing loss, both before and after death. Mary Pat will be speaking with us about grief—how it shows up in real life, how it affects individuals and communities, and how we can better support one another.

Mary Pat is a lifelong nurse called to walk with people during some of life’s most tender moments With decades of nursing experience across the life span from cradle to grave in  acute care, hospice, and community health. Mary Pat began her professional nursing career in Pediatric Oncology, Hospice, and Home Care as an Associate Degree RN in Florida. Due to her interest in child abuse and neglect she was appointed by the Supreme Court of Florida as a Guardian Ad Litem. Mary Pat followed her boyfriend now husband to Colorado in the late 1980’s and began working in a variety of settings including but not limited to Burn ICU, Surgical ICUs, Pediatric acute care from hospital to home, Medical, Surgical, Oncology, Psychiatry, Women’s Health, Home Care, Hospice and Forensic Nursing. She received her BSN at Metropolitan State University in 1995 followed by becoming a Nurse Practitioner in 2000 her MSN at University of Colorado, Colorado Springs specializing as a Forensic Clinician in 2005 and her MPA with a Certificate in Interpersonal Violence from the Center on Domestic Violence at University of Colorado in 2008.

Mary Pat has had her own practice in Evergreen establishing Evergreen Nursing Services in 2006 and has seen the constant ever growing needs in her community and beyond leading her to where she is today. She has served in numerous boards and committees and maintains an active role in the Colorado Nurses Association, Academy of Forensic Sciences, International Association of Forensic Science, American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Care Nurses Association, Academy of Medical Aid in Dying, Suicide Prevention Coalition, and Vital Hearts.

Mary Pat began her teaching career in 2007 and has been on faculty in five different colleges of nursing. She continues on Faculty at Metropolitan State University continuing her passion in teaching our future nurses.

Mary Pat specializes in patient advocacy, care coordination, and RN-led respite support for individuals and families navigating serious illness, complex medical systems, and end-of-life care. Her work focuses on bridging gaps between clinical care and real-life needs—supporting informed decision-making, continuity of care, and alignment with patient goals and values.

She is known for her ability to translate complex medical information into clear, actionable guidance, while maintaining a calm, professional presence during high-stress transitions. Through her work, Mary Pat partners with patients, families, healthcare teams, and community organizations to improve outcomes and reduce caregiver burden.

Mary Pat is known for her calm presence, clinical wisdom, and deeply human approach to care. She specializes in supporting individuals and families during vulnerable moments—whether navigating serious illness, end-of-life decisions, hospital-to-home transitions, or caregiver exhaustion. Mary Pat provides personalized nursing support, patient advocacy, and respite care that bridges gaps in the healthcare system with dignity, clarity, and compassion.
