The Rotary Club of Evergreen has celebrated its annual “Changing of the Guard” at the Evergreen Lake House on Thursday, June 23rd. Rotarians joyfully commemorated a year of service to their community and the world, meaningful friendships, and fabulous fun.

The “Changing of the Guard” salutes outgoing officers and board members and welcomes the new. The club also commemorates the past year’s accomplishments and sets course for the upcoming year. Approximately 80 attended the event, deliciously catered by Fresh Tracks. Guests included the incoming District 5450 Governor Bill Downes and his wife Karin. Currently the district encompasses 63 clubs and 3,100 members. Immense appreciation was expressed to President Bob Bradley, his wife Annette, and the 2015/2016 Board of Directors.

During his President’s welcome, Bob reflected upon the many highlights of the 2015/2016 Evergreen Rotary Year, including a Legacy Fund gift of $30,000 to establish the Evergreen Musical Park, and a $5,000 Legacy Funds grant to the Jefferson County Outdoor Lab Schools to assist in the establishment of a "Living Lab" greenhouse program. In total, the Rotary Club of Evergreen contributed $60,000 in Community Service grants to various local non-profits and projects, and thousands of hours of volunteer time on behalf of their community.

It should also be noted that the global reach of Evergreen’s Rotary Club is unparalleled. During the past year, the International Service Committee and club members participated in ten different sustainable global projects on three continents.
President Bradley also mentioned that the Rotary Club of Evergreen received five District and International awards: Ron Catterson received the Four Way Test Award; Harry Schaefer received the Volunteer in Service Award; Carol Carper the Active Senior Rotarian Award; and the club received the Preserve Planet Earth Award, thanks to the great leadership of Carma Schaefer.

The club also was one of only five clubs in the District to receive RI's Presidential Citation Gold Award. Curt Harris received special recognition in the form of a Peace Builder for his 18-plus years of international service.
Incoming President Linda Lovin remarked upon absolute value of Rotary, and its ability to create positive, lasting change in our communities and around the world. “Because I know you, I’ve been changed for good, through Rotary we’ve changed each other’s lives for good and the world for good.” This, then is the mission for the Rotary Club of Evergreen 2016/2017.

Founded in 1905, the purpose of Rotary International is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.
The Rotary Club of Evergreen meets on Fridays at 7:00 am, at the Evergreen Country Day School in Evergreen. Visitors are always most welcome!
