Sara Nassr would like us to know what her beloved country was like before war, what it is like now, and what it means to immigrate to America. Sara, a 21 year old refugee from Damascus, has an eloquence and wisdom beyond her years. Her familiarity with the history and situation in Syria and her first-hand experience with the many steps required to immigrate to the USA should provide valuable insight to those of us who only hear and see the Syria that’s portrayed in the news.
Sara imparts a depth of understanding that only one who has lived the news can realize. Listen to this courageous young woman tell the story of her family’s escape to Turkey, their 4 year wait for a UN sponsorship, the many steps required to realize this opportunity, and their arrival in Colorado last September. Since then, the family of 5 has concentrated on building a life in their new country. Sara has worked, attended Emily Griffith, mastered English, and will begin studying for a degree in psychology this fall.
